The Town of Phillipsburg announces the upcoming retirement of Chief of Police Robert Stettner, effective January 1, 2025. After 25 years of service, including 12 years as Chief, Chief Stettner is stepping down, marking the end of an important chapter for the Phillipsburg Police Department.

Chief Stettner’s tenure saw notable accomplishments, including securing accreditation from the New Jersey Association of Chiefs of Police, a milestone for both the department and the community. His leadership has been a significant part of the department’s history, and we extend our appreciation for his contributions to public safety in Phillipsburg. We wish him well as he embarks on this next phase of his life.

Looking ahead, the Phillipsburg Police Department is pleased to welcome James McDonald as the Interim Chief of Police. With 20 years of dedicated service and a proven track record in leadership, McDonald brings a fresh perspective and vision to the department. The Town of Phillipsburg is eager to work alongside Interim Chief McDonald to build on the department’s progress, strengthen community partnerships, and address the challenges and opportunities of the future. We are confident that his leadership will usher in a new era of growth and innovation for the Phillipsburg Police Department.
